Meditation for MEN

Men have meditated for centuries. Some of the greatest minds of our time and many through-out history, are known to meditate. Freud, Einstein, and Darwin are just a few historical figures who incorporated meditation into their lives. Today countless celebrities, politicians and business people make meditation part of a daily practice and the numbers are increasing dramatically as more and more businesses include meditation in employee programing.
What is the attraction and why is it beneficial for everyone, but especially for men?
Meditation allows us to explore possibilities. Men are typically rational thinkers. They pride themselves on their logical, reasoning minds. They are very pragmatic and like it or not – they like to be in control of outcomes. Meditation helps the mind to relax thus expanding awareness. It opens us up to new and creative ways of problem solving. It is surprising how easy life is when we relax and let life happen without any intervention.
Meditation also helps us to feel. Many men were taught not to express their feelings, to be tough, to be in charge. This expectation leads many men to express only the good emotions and bury the bad. Or express all emotion in unhealthy and inappropriate ways. Meditation helps us to connect to the subconscious mind where many of these buried emotions live. Once seen, often these feelings lose their emotional charge. We can stop avoiding feelings that make us uncomfortable and begin to learn from them.
Finally, meditation introduces us to our authentic self. Many of us spent years chasing after success and happiness. We keep doing, thinking we will find it once we retire, when we get the next promotion, or if things at home were better. Meditation brings us back to the present moment, to ourselves, to what is actually here. It expands our awareness, creativity and resilience. Life simply feels easier.
Lucas Stiefvater is offering a 5-week meditation program for men only, thus creating a safe environment, to learn and explore the inner landscape.
Beginning November 2nd to November 30/2017
Fees are by donations: 50% to Centre and 50% to the Campbell River Food Bank.
